Kindergarten and primary school

II year project

Introduction to the project-

  • A school meant for kids in the age group 3- 9 years.
  • The site is in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
  • A contoured site with some existing vegetation on it.
Expectations from the project-

  • To respect the topography of the site and design the structure such that there is almost no harm to the vegetation of the site.
  • To make use of the contours in such a way that they form a nice playful environment for the students.

The classrooms forming a circle are the kindergarten classrooms. They form a circle because every year that the student spends in the school he gets to see some different side of the site. This not only helps him develop a keen eye for new things but also refreshes his mind every year.

The left side of the structure forms the administration, sports room, library, canteen and computer lab for the school.

The first floor comprises of only classrooms and a staff room for the primary students. Both ends of the structure are left open for cross ventilation.

The central pagoda-like structure which also forms the epi-centre of the structure is the toy room and activity room for the kindergarten section.
