Centre For Urban Youth- spaces for interaction and communication

III year project

Introduction to the topic-

  • The project aims at providing a platform for the urban youths of Mumbai to communicate and interact with each other.
  • Providing a platform where they can exhibit their talent.
  • The site is an abandoned mill site in Byculla, Mumbai.
  • The site has an existing water body.
  • The project comprises of admin building, four workshop spaces, exhibition galleries, an auditorium for 250, an amphitheatre for 500, cafeteria. 
Challenges in the project-

  • To create a youth friendly space and have a lot of landscaped open space so that informal performances can be held.
  • The site is an 'L' shape which makes it challenging to connect both the segments/pieces of land.

The chimney of the existing mill has been retained but it has been given the same type of facade treatment as that of the other proposed buildings.
